At this time of year many of us are succumbing to colds and other illnesses. There are many things you can do to help fight off winter viruses such as:
- Drink plenty of water
- Increase your intake of vitamin C in your diet
- Take echinacea
- Regular hand washing
- Have regular reflexology treatments
I can imagine many of you are thinking,
“Reflexology? How could reflexology stop me from getting a cold?”
Well, reflexology has a detoxifying effect on the body. This means that toxins are ‘flushed out’ of your system before they have a chance to take hold and develop into something else.
After a reflexology treatment some people experience a ‘healing reaction’. For example, you may get a runny nose or running eyes or an increased need to go to the toilet. This may be uncomfortable for a short time, but it is a positive reaction. The detoxifying effects of reflexology is the reason why a reflexologist should always tell you to drink plenty of water after a reflexology treatment because it helps the ‘flushing out’ process.
A ‘healing reaction’ is always a loosening of something that is already there.
We are sometimes encouraged to take over the counter medications on the first sign of illness, e.g. medication to stop a streaming cold or diarrhoea.
I believe that relieving the symptoms of minor illnesses stops the body from following its natural course of getting rid of whatever it was that caused the illness in the first place. It’s a case of treating the symptoms instead of the cause and may result in the illness remaining in your system for longer to raise its head again at a later date.
Don’t wait until you are ill to try reflexology, use reflexology as a preventative treatment as well.
